Purpose
The WorkCover WA Twitter account (@WorkCoverWA) is used to inform our stakeholders (workers, employers, insurers, health and other service providers) and the general public on activities within the Western Australian (WA) workers’ compensation scheme.
This information may include:
- release of new reports, guidelines, bulletins and policies
- activities conducted by WorkCover WA
- media releases.
WorkCover WA’s website is the main source of public information and can be found at www.workcover.wa.gov.au.

Media
WorkCover WA does not respond to media requests through the @WorkCoverWA Twitter account.

WorkCover WA Twitter account
WorkCover WA operates its Twitter account as @WorkCoverWA.
Tweets will be issued during office hours: Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm WST. WorkCover WA accepts no responsibility for Twitter downtime.
Following
WorkCover WA does not automatically follow organisations or individuals who follow it. Being followed by WorkCover WA does not imply endorsement of any kind.
The subsequent points apply to WorkCover WA’s Twitter involvement:
- WorkCover WA may follow relevant organisations and other parties where there is a clear link in communicating and receiving relevant information about workers’ compensation.
- Individual Twitter users will not be followed unless they are known in a related professional capacity.
Re-Tweet
WorkCover WA does not take requests to re-tweet from other Twitter users.
WorkCover WA will proactively re-tweet content that contributes useful information relevant to workplace health and safety, and workers’ compensation and injury management in WA.
This may include, but is not limited to:
- State Government or Federal Government announcements affecting WA
- Ministerial media statements
- Relevant industry news; and
- Research, reports, findings and statistics.
Monitoring, @replies and direct messages
The primary purpose of WorkCover WA’s Twitter account is to facilitate release of information relevant to the WA workers’ compensation and injury management scheme.
The subsequent points apply to WorkCover WA’s Twitter involvement:
- WorkCover WA will not reply individually to all messages received; and
- Where common topics and requests exist, WorkCover WA may issue a general notification to all parties via Twitter.

Hashtags (#)
The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a tweet. Hashtags allow users to quickly identify ‘trending’ topics (as displayed on the Twitter.com homepage).
WorkCover WA will use hashtags when:
- Announcing new reports, guidelines, bulletins and policies
- Changes to rates, fees and payments within the WA workers’ compensation scheme.
Election period and caretaker conventions
In the period before a State Election, WorkCover WA’s Twitter account will be managed in accordance with caretaker conventions published by the Department of Premier and Cabinet. WorkCover WA will notify its followers about the reason for any changes to the frequency or volume of tweets.
Privacy
WorkCover WA does not routinely capture or record the contact details of any parties following its Twitter account.
Departmental staff use of Twitter
Posting on the @WorkCover WA Twitter account by WorkCover WA staff for professional reasons is restricted to nominated staff. Use of this Twitter account and personal use of social media by WorkCover WA staff is governed by the WorkCover WA Acceptable Use of Technology policy and the WorkCover WA Social Media Guidelines.
